The annual Watford Rural Parish Council Christmas Fun-Day took place on Sat 1st December 2018 on St. Andrew’s Road, South Oxhey.
The event was filled with many festive activities for all age groups, including funfair rides, face painting, Christmas stalls and raffle prizes. Children were able to get into the festive spirit by visiting Santa in his Grotto and receiving an early Christmas present, all to the sounds of Rob Danks Children Entertainment.
Countryside and Home Group are very pleased to have supported this annual event. We look forward to the annual Summer Fun-Day.
The South Oxhey Community Choir gave a performance of Christmas Carols at the weekend to the local community at the newly opened Station Square at Carpenders Park.
The outdoor public concert marked the beginning of the holiday season and the latest milestone in Countryside and Home Group’s South Oxhey Central development. Led by Musical Director, Simon Wookey, the 30-strong choir performed traditional Christmas Carols to celebrate the opening of the transformed Station Square. The new public realm includes a selection of new shops, set around a landscaped area with a new pavilion at its centre. Attended by local residents and councillors, the performance was open to all and was followed by the serving of mulled wine and mince pies.
Countryside, Home Group and Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) celebrated the beginning of Phase 2 by hosting a ground breaking ceremony on Wednesday 17th October.
The ceremony marked the start of Phase 2 which comprises of 174 new homes of which 48 homes are for social rent, 126 homes for sale and circa 8,500 sqft of retail space, including new market place. The event also celebrated the achievements of Phase 1A and 1B which have provided 84 high-quality homes and a new Station Approach next to Carpenders Park station.
The event, held in a marquee set up on the Phase 2 site, was attended by local and district councillors, the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership and Homes England, local retailers and representatives from Home Group, Countryside and Three Rivers District Council. The event was opened by a speech from the Managing Director (West London) at Countryside, Mike Woolliscroft, who emphasised the strength of the partnership between Countryside, Home Group and Three Rivers District Council and the success of the first phase of the project. Brian Ham, Executive Director of Development at Home Group, continued to say that he was very pleased with our partnership working on the South Oxhey Initiative, and being a part of building new homes for the community. The Leader of the Three Rivers District Council, Cllr Sara Bedford, expressed how the scheme is benefiting residents and the wider community through an improved public realm, employment and the opportunity for residents to get onto the property ladder. Visitors also had the opportunity to learn more about the site progress from Daniel King, Development Director (West London) at Countryside.
The presentations were followed by a celebratory set of photographs to mark ‘breaking ground’, and by a walking tour of the nearly completed Phase 1 and Station Approach.
A drawing competition took place with Oxhey Wood Primary School in spring 2018. Winners were selected and have received vouchers as a reward. The drawings have been displayed on the Phase 2 hoarding. Well done to all that took part.
Further competitions and activities with local schools and communities are being planned as we welcome local residents to be involved throughout the South Oxhey Central construction programme.
The second phase of the development will include a total of 174 new homes, 48 of which – ranging from 1, 2 and 3 bedroom properties – will be allocated to existing Home Group residents living along Bridlington Road, St Andrews Road, The Parade and Pennard House.
Home Group held allocation meetings at the end of last year and residents had the opportunity to view plans for the layouts of the new homes. All offers of accommodation were confirmed by the Regeneration Team in April.
The new homes are anticipated to be completed in early 2020, by which time we currently anticipate moving residents allocated to Phase 2.
Home Group will continue to update residents with information around the build programme and we will be holding residents’ choice session next year, where all residents will get the opportunity to choose their kitchen, carpets and bathroom flooring from a range of options.
The former gardens situated by Henbury Way road has been transformed into a more friendly and useable area. The open space features a new childrens’ play area which is surrounded with grass, seating and additional trees.
The park has been named ‘Ann Shaw Garden’, in memory of the late Cllr Ann Shaw, former Leader of the Council. Cllr Ann Shaw contributed significantly to the community and was committed to her role as a member of the Council to help the people she represented. Among many achievements, Cllr Shaw was dedicated to protecting the environment and set up a network of playgrounds throughout the district and leisure facilities to cater for young people.
The formal opening of the gardens took place on Saturday the 30th of June and was attended by family members of Cllr Ann Shaw as well as local Councillors.
The eastern part of the park, which has been turned into a temporary car park for the duration of the development, will be transformed into a public open space at the completion of the development in 2022.
This year’s Community Fun Day, held on Saturday 16th June, was very well attended by many South Oxhey residents. There were plenty of activities for people to enjoy – including Bungee Fly, an inflatable castle, face painting, balloon designs and a raffle. Refreshments were offered in the Parish Hall, while a DJ and local choir entertained the community with a variety of songs.
In total, £1,722 was raised for the Food Bank and Peace Hospice.
Watford Rural Parish Council would like to thank everyone who generously donated and attended the event.
